Q & A WITH ARIELLE CHARNAS

Q & A WITH ARIELLE CHARNAS

Arielle is a fashion influencer, mother to two girls (with another on the way), and the founder and creative director of Something Navy: a fashion & lifestyle brand that started as a blog in 2009 and has since grown into a clothing line of elevated, classic styles. Here, she shares how her brand has changed and how she balances work and mom life.

Craving:
Spaghetti and meatballs, sumo oranges, pickles, Van Leeuwen ice cream.

Birth Plan:
I've never really gone into what my birth plan is. I'm hoping to have the baby VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) but will have to make the decision once the baby is more firmly in place. And, of course, based on what my doctor recommends.

Daughters:
They [Ruby and Esme] could not be more excited. They touch my belly and give the baby kisses all the time!

Style Advice:
All that matters is that you feel confident in what you’re wearing. Also, invest in timeless handbags.

Favorite Piece from A Pea in the Pod:
The Luxe Maternity Jumpsuit from our Something Navy curated assortment of luxe basics. It can be dressed down or up, worn with a blazer or sneakers … anything. It's so soft!

Style Inspiration:
The Something Navy community, always.

Style Icon:
I really don't have one specific person. I'm inspired by so many different people and it's constantly changing. I'll always love MK though.

Something Navy’s Brand Evolution since Becoming a Mother:
It has pushed me to expand our categories to fit a lifestyle rather than just women’s fashion. We work with brand partners across home, beauty, children’s, tech, and finance in order to spotlight our favorite finds and generate awareness of great brands among the SN community. For the SN brand specifically, we are releasing mommy-and-me styles throughout 2021 and of course have our A Pea in the Pod exclusive curation on site this spring—quality maternity staples are so important to me as a mom.

Work-Life Balance:
I haven't found the perfect recipe for this; it's something I'm constantly working on, but I really try to be present with my girls and my husband as much as possible. And practicing gratitude—I’m so grateful to have such an amazing, busy professional career and personal life. I count my blessings every day.

Maternity Leave:
The idea of it sounds really nice but we have so much going on at SN and I usually get restless after a few weeks...never say never, but we’ll see.

Favorite Something Navy Moment:
Seeing our Bleecker Street store for the first time was a pinch myself moment. Also, celebrating each new SN collection drop with my team is really special! It’s been an incredible journey and we’re just getting started.
