BEHIND THE SCENES OF OUR DENIM SHOOT

2 min read

To highlight the latest maternity denim in our ever-growing collection, we decided to pare it back this time, with a little help from model & muse, Silja Danielsen (@siljadanielsen). At 20 weeks along, she showcased how even when you’re in those early stages of pregnancy – kind of showing, kind of not, but still in need of new clothes – you can still wear on-trend pieces that fit into your personal style.

When it comes to denim, you especially want to think about upgrading to 1st to 4th-friendly styles early on. You may not be showing to the outside eye, but you definitely feel a difference, and that signature pair of blues is probably starting to feel just a little bit too uncomfortable.

From classic straight to forever skinnies and the trendy vintage fits you’ve been looking for, we made pregnancy denim look cool & feel even better.

Mia Solkin, our creative director, talked her inspiration for the shoot’s look & feel: “We wanted it to be more pared down and even a little grungy.” Hair & makeup artist, Jessica Pineda (@_bare_bones_), matched that vibe, “I focused on bringing out Silja’s natural beauty – naturally teased hair with a ‘60s meets ‘90s messy kind of look.” The soft lighting – with the sun lending its helping hand – & the plain, warehouse backdrop matched the “all about the denim” feel. Bringing out Silja’s natural glow wasn’t difficult – at 20 weeks, she was in the midst of that natural pregnancy radiance.

Our in-house stylist, Jackie, wanted to focus on classic style with an editorial twist. It was about elevating the everyday denim look: light wash maternity denim with a camel sweater that can either be casual for a daytime look or easily dressed up for a nighttime outing. Or taking a trendy pair of flare dark wash denim and pairing with a staple denim jacket. What’s better than denim on denim?

There were lots of wovens on set: crewneck sweatshirts & oversized blazers that can be styled many different ways. Most important to Jackie was including new denim fits that aren’t just skinny – the boyfriend fit, the slim straight fit, the modern flare, and cooler, better denim for your 1st to 4th collection. Jackie notes she took inspiration from not one place, but many. “I focused on evergreen styles and how to take them up a notch with jewelry and shoes.”

Minimalist chic, pretty and classic, oversized cool – we focused on the fits & inspiration you need for upgrading your denim ASAP. You want to be comfortable during this time while still maintaining a sense of personal style. And we have the jeans your belly can grow into from now to later.
